Harby C of E Primary School fully recognises the contribution it can make to protect children and support pupils in school.  We aim to safeguard and promote our pupils’ welfare, safety and health by fostering an honest, open, caring and supportive environment. We encourage children to talk about their worries and to report their concerns to us so that we can offer support.  The pupils’ welfare is of paramount importance.  

Safeguarding is EVERYONE’S responsibility. 

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in school is Mrs. Bridget Bye and the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL) is Mrs. Rebecca Lewis.  These members of staff have had further in depth training to support their role. 

They can be contacted by email to dsl@harby.leics.sch.uk or by telephoning the school office.

Any concerns can be raised with them and they will be able to support, advise and take action as needed.  There will always be access to a school safeguarding lead when children are at school – even if they are not in school in person.

In out of school hours, school holidays or for any parent / member of the public: If you are concerned that a child is in immediate danger, ring the police on 999. If you have an urgent concern about a child: please refer it to First Response Children's Duty by calling 0116 3050005.

All staff in school receive regular updates and training in relation to safeguarding and we have systems in place to support.  Volunteers in school have a safeguarding induction prior to working in school.  Governors also receive safeguarding training and the governor with specific responsibility for safeguarding is Mrs. Caron Bouckley.

Operation Encompass

Our school is part of Operation Encompass which is a national scheme that operates jointly between schools and police forces.

Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has experienced domestic abuse.

As a school we have ensured that a member of our staff, (Designated Safeguarding Lead) known as a Key Adult, has been trained in the Operation Encompass procedures allowing us to then use the information that has been shared, in confidence, to support the children in our care.

The Domestic Abuse Act 2021 identifies children who experience domestic abuse as victims of domestic abuse in their own right.  We are keen to offer the best support possible to all our pupils and we believe this will be extremely beneficial for all those involved.
