Communication with School
We have a number of communication methods that are used in different circumstances and these include email, telephone and Seesaw. Staff are busy preparing lessons, teaching or have prearranged meetings and so cannot just stop and chat - using these methods helps us to be able to keep in touch with you in the most effective and efficient way for us all. We have shared some information about this below which we hope is useful.
Contacting the school about pupil absence:
This must be completed via email or telephone message. It is important that the message is given directly to the school office to ensure that this can be recorded as part of our safeguarding procedures and cross-referenced with the attendance register. Messages must come from the parents and must not be passed on via word of mouth or other children. If we do not receive daily messages about pupil absences then we will apply our procedures which include telephoning all emergency contacts and a home visit if needed to ensure pupils and families are safe.
Contacting the school about a change in collection:
Should there be a change in who is collecting your child please communicate this to the school office for our records. If we do not receive this information then we will contact you before allowing your child to be collected by someone different. You may wish to email a blanket permission for parents / grandparents / family friends to collect on any occasion and we are happy to keep this on record until you change / withdraw consent.
General queries:
Parents should ring or contact the school office in person / via email in the first instance for any queries. This enables us to direct your query to the right person to be able to help you.
Meetings:
Should your enquiry / questions require a meeting with a staff member then we are happy to arrange this at a mutually convenient time either in person or via the telephone to meet your needs.
Link Letter:
The school Link Letter will be shared with you every week via email with information about what has been happening in school. If you do not receive this please contact the school office so that we can ensure that you are on our mailing list.
Email:
We will email you with copies of letters and information to keep you updated and informed about school activities.
Seesaw:
We use Seesaw to share your child's work with you. This enables you to see and comment on what your child is doing in school and also to share any work or achievements from home. Teachers are preparing and teaching during the day and so this is not a helpful way of sharing important information that we need to know immediately as there is no guarantee as to when it will be looked at. This is why the office is the first and main way of communicating. Teachers are not expected to engage in communication outside of their working hours and some conversations are better suited to a meeting or telephone call with your child's class teacher rather than via Seesaw. The main reason for using Seesaw is to share work, achievements and important messages and reminders to help you to stay in touch with school and share in your child's learning.
Website:
The school website is a large source of information about all aspects of school life and we will keep this updated. It is mobile device friendly and has a search function to help you find the information you need.
Parent Information Evenings:
These are opportunities to come to school and find out more about specific aspects of learning - such as maths or reading. We welcome parents to these evenings and are also able to share the slides and information from this on our school website. They are good opportunities to ask questions and talk with staff and other parents.
Formal Communication
Parents' Evenings:
We hold two parents evenings each year to enable dialogue between home and school. These are in the autumn and spring terms and will be arranged at a mutually convenient time.
Annual Report:
We issue an annual report in the summer term and this will have lots of information about your child's achievement and progress throughout the year.
Statutory Assessments:
Should your child be taking part in statutory assessments, such as phonics or SATs, then we will ensure that results are shared with you.
The opportunity to have a meeting to discuss the above formal communication about children's learning is always available. Please click on the button below for further information about assessment and reporting.
